Mechanism of RSD/CRPS

Mechanism of RSD/CRPS

This full color stock medical exhibit depicts the mechanism of Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (RSD/CRPS). A series of images illustrate the mechanism: • A pain impulse is initiated by the original injury and is carried to the central nervous system • The pain impulse triggers a response impulse in the sympathetic nervous system • The sympathetic response is returned to the area of original injury and triggers an inflammatory response causing pain and swelling • Pain and swelling in turn trigger another nervous impulse which establishes a continuous cycle
