This medical exhibit depicts two superior views of a thoracic vertebra. The first image presents the normal anatomy with a healthy disc and unobstructed spinal cord and roots. The second image shows a herniated disc in which the nucleus pulposus has ruptured and is impinging on the right exiting nerve root.
