Papilledema

Papilledema

Normal eye anatomy compared with papilledema (edema or swelling of the optic nerve/disc). Shows normal retina and optic nerve. On papilledema images, the retina shows narrowed blood vessels, presence of exudate and hemorrhage (bleeding). The cut away view shows how increased intracranial pressure is transmitted down the optic nerve where it causes hemorrhage to the retina.
