Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair with Inappropriate Staple Placement
This stock medical exhibit depicts a laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair with inappropriate staple placement. The first illustration is an orientation graphic that indicates the plane of axial section. The second illustration shows an axial section of the abdomen looking down into the pelvis. The laparascope, stapler and grasper are in position for the procedure. The third illustration shows the anatomy and pre-operative condition of the abdomen looking down into the pelvis, including the inguinal hernia, the "triangle of doom," the "electrical hazard zone," bladder, epigastric vessels, uterus, round ligament, ovary, colon, rectum, iliac vein and artery, genitofemoral nerve, lateral femoral cutaneous nerve and ilioinguinal nerve. The fourth illustration shows the correct placement of staples to secure the mesh during the procedure.
