This stock medical exhibit depicts cervical disc injuries at C4-5 with an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion procedure. The first illustration is a sagittal view of the cervical spine showing the pre-operative condition. Also shown is a superior view of C4-5 clearly revealing the C4-5 disc herniation. There are four steps of the operative procedure illustrated, beginning with the incision to expose the cervical vertebrae. Next shows the removal of the C4-5 intervertebral disc. Then using a drill a 12mm hole is drilled in the C4-5 disc space. The bone shavings are saved for later use. Finally an allograft is hammered into place and the harvested shavings are placed on either side of the dowel.
